Candidate Name: Ronnie Richardson

Candidate Number: 10049423

Pathway: Film/Animation

Project Title: The Resistance - Operation: Tomahawk

Rationale:

Across the previous units, I have gained much knowledge of 3d modelling, graphic design, illustration, character design, storyboarding and storytelling, developing animations and games. I have also learned how to plan a project, conduct research for it, as well as evaluating the project and peer assessing, developing communicating skills in the process of creating a project.

In the creation of my previous projects, I have gained enough knowledge and developed enough skills that I feel confident to create a larger project for my Final Major Project (FMP). The purpose of this is to show off the skills I have developed, and prove that I can apply these skills to an independent project. I will show that I have practical skills to create what I need in the project, as well as management skills in terms of keeping track of time and planning the project course.

Project Concept:

Main Project (Concept):

The main concept for the FMP that I have come up with will see me creating an animated movie across the allocated time frame. I wish to create a short movie for this project, fully edited with sound effects, music, voice acting etc.  I will be basing it off of previous work, and so resources from before can be used. I will research online to gather information for the project, as well as using research to inspire myself.

Main Project (Considered Project Concepts):

I have also considered two other concepts that I could base my project around. These ideas were thought of during the brainstorming process but will not be used for the FMP. These are:

Character Design - This concept would see me creating at least one character with a highly detailed model, and possible animation to show off my skills. The character will have a backstory and relevant information such as; name, age etc.

Game Design - This concept would see me designing a game of my choice, creating the game story, mechanics as well as a level to show how the game would operate. I would also create an animation of how the level would be played if it was a real game.

Main Project (Planning):

My project will begin with planning. I will have to write out the planned story, and create the script for my movie. Characters will also have to be planned out for the movie, and I will have to plan their designs, personalities etc.

I will also have to create the storyboards for each scene, so that I know what I need to animate, and how the scene will go. I will make simple storyboards for non-action scenes, and complicated, longer storyboards for the action scenes, so that I know who will be fighting at specific moments. These storyboards will be created after the script so that I know how the story is planned, and what I need to include in the storyboards.

Main Project (Research):

For primary information, I will be taking pictures of areas in real-life so that I can use it for modelling inspiration. I will also take pictures of people to use for designing the characters in the movie. Along with this, I will conduct surveys with questions about my movie concept, and if people would consider watching it, which will help me understand what audience will watch my movie.

For secondary information, I will be using the internet to find information for my movie, such as how to structure a movie effectively or how to design characters that are compelling and interesting to the viewer. I will also use other sources, such as books and actual movies to research information for the project. One example of movies that I'll research will be my own work that I have done previously, which is a 12 minute animation created by me.

Both the primary and secondary research will be beneficial to my project, and will help me create a high quality movie that is entertaining and has a compelling narrative.

Main Project (Themes):

Themes of the movie will be: power and corruption, the fight for freedom, as well as war/conflict:

Power and Corruption - This is one of the themes of the movie, as the main antagonist is a power-hungry man who rules over a country in a brutal dictatorship. He is violent towards most people, unless they respect and listen to him. His quest for power corrupted him into the dictator he is in the movie, as well as others who are under his command.

In the end, however, the antagonist does fail to keep his power, and he is defeated by the protagonist. He loses control of the country, and is locked away from everyone for what he had done in his quest for power.

Fight for Freedom - This is another theme in the movie, as the protagonist has to fight against the antagonist for freedom of the people and to take down the brutal dictatorship that controls the country.  Throughout the movie, the protagonist will have to face the antagonist’s allies and defeat them to get the chance to takedown the antagonist, and free everyone from the dictatorship.

War/Conflict - This is the third theme of the movie, as the main part of the movie is the protagonist and his army will have to fight the antagonist’s army for control of the country. Eventually, the protagonist wins and achieves the goal of taking down the antagonist and his army, ending the brutal dictatorship and bringing peace to the country.

Main Project (Resources):

The resources that I will need are what I used in my previous project, such as a computer, Maya for animating, GarageBand for voice acting, and regular drawing utensils for sketching/planning. Many different resources will be needed for the project:

Planning - The planning will need writing/drawing utensils as well as a computer for digital documents. Planning will cover the story planning, character designing, and script writing for the movie.

Research - The research would need a camera of some kind, as well as questionnaire documents for the primary research, and a computer to access sites for secondary research, as well as me going to a library for researching information within relevant books. I would also be creating a Wix site to house my planning and research.

Practical - The practical part of the project will need Maya for the 3d modelling/animating of the movie. The movie would then be edited using Premiere Pro, and I would add in sound effects, voice acting and video effects.

Main Project (Presentation):

I will present my work on a computer, as it will be an animation, and I will also have a Wix website that will present my written work. Along with this, I will have any physical planning work pieces around the computer for people to look at. All of this will present my project that I have been working on for the FMP.

Evaluation:

I will be re-evaluating my plans across the course of the project, so that I can change them to better suit what I envision the project outcome will be. This is so that if something occurs where the work is impacted, I can change what will be the outcome so that I can still produce a brilliant piece of work without sacrificing any quality. I will be keeping record using a journal that I will update at the end of every day, recording what I did during each day, and any changes made. In the journal, I will also be evaluating what went well each day, and what I could do to improve my work. I will evaluate each day's work and set up plans to improve on the work.

During the project, I will get either my peers, teaching staff, or both to evaluate my current work, and give me feedback on the project. I will then implement any changes that I feel are necessary. I will also be evaluating my work as a whole at the end of the project, which means that I will have both the end evaluation for the whole project, as well as the smaller evaluations that were conducted during the development.

Action Plan:

I have created an action plan that I will follow to ensure that my project is kept on schedule, and so that I know what to focus on every week. Breaking it up into weeks ensures that I can keep track of my progress, and adapt the scheduling if needed.
